‘Broadchurch’ Creator Chris Chibnall’s Debut Novel Being Made Into ITV Drama Series

Former Doctor Who and Broadchurch showrunner Chris Chibnall’s debut novel is becoming an ITV drama series.

Chibnall will pen the small screen adaptation of Death at the White Hart, which will be published in two weeks.

More from Deadline

Death at the White Hart is set in the Dorset village of Fleetcombe, where the village pub’s landlord is found murdered. Detective Nicola Bridge must unpick a web of lies and rivalries to unmask the killer. The novel is the first of a two book deal in the UK and U.S. for Chibnall.

Death at the White Hart will be produced by Chibnall’s Imaginary Friends Productions along with Death in Paradise maker Red Planet Pictures. ITV said Red Planet secured the deal with Imaginary Friends in a highly competitive landscape, “with multiple offers for the rights from production companies and buyers worldwide.”

Chibnall was Doctor Who showrunner prior to Russell T Davies and also created Broadchurch, one of ITV’s most popular shows of all time. He is behind Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery.

Death at the White Hart was commissioned by ITV drama boss Polly Hill. Chibnall said: “Polly’s dynamic vote of confidence in Death At The White Hart made it a no-brainer to bring the novel to the screen with ITV. Within this cliffhanger-packed murder mystery sits a specifically British story about how people live their lives right now. There’s no better home for it than ITV.”

Fremantle, which owns Red Planet-owner Asacha, will sell worldwide. The deal rights to Death at the White Hart were handled by Alex Jones for Red Planet together with Raffaella De Angelis, spearheading the literary acquisition for Fremantle. Chibnall is represented by Cathy King and Eugenie Furniss at 42.

Angela Bassett didn't shed any tears when she dropped her kids off at college. The 66-year-old actress has revealed that she felt "lots of joy" when she dropped her 19-year-old twins, Bronwyn and Slater, off at their new school. The award-winning star - who has been married to actor Courtney B. Vance since 1997 - told the 'Today' show: "You know what, no tears. Just lots of joy. "You think you're going to cry, and because you think you are going to do that, it doesn't happen. I remember when I went to college and how wonderful it was, so, of course, I wanted that for them too, so no cries, no guilt." Angela previously insisted that she will support her kids if they follow her into the movie business. The Hollywood star revealed that she will always support her children - irrespective of what they do in their careers. Speaking about her kids' interests, Angela explained to PEOPLE: "They want to follow the success, but whether it be acting, I don't get any clues to that right now. It's a little music, a little sports. But whatever they want to do, I support them." Angela previously won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', and the movie star revealed that she celebrated her success with her kids. The acclaimed actress - who has won a host of awards during her career, including a Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards - said: "I went home and hugged my kids. Charlie Sheen's daughter Sami 'bullied' for looking like her dad
Charlie Sheen's daughter Sami Sheen was bullied for looking like her famous father. Sami, 20, has admitted the cruel taunts about her appearance from her school mates convinced her she needed to get a nose job and she's also had to deal with comparisons to her actress mother Denise Richards. Speaking to her mom in an episode of family reality show 'Denise Richards and Her Wild Things', Sami explained: "I had to deal with kids bullying me. "People would say I looked like my dad. I actually got a comment the other day of someone saying, ‘You’ll never be as pretty as your mom'." The episode showed Denise driving her daughter to a consultation with a doctor about her planned rhinoplasty prior to the surgery in August and Sami told her mother she had wanted the operation "for as long as [I] can remember", adding: "I have this freaking honker stuck to my face". Sami also pointed to her mom's face as the example of a "perfect" nose as she explained her hope for the surgery to the doctor. Later in the episode, Denise - who is mom to Sami as well as 19-year-old Lola with her ex-husband Charlie- became tearful as she talked about her daughter's desire to go under the knife. She said: "For my daughter to want to get her nose done, it made me so sad. I feel bad that she has to live up to my nose, or whatever, because I don’t want [my daughters] to feel they have to look a certain way ... "There were times I wanted to move the kids out of LA, and I couldn’t because of where I worked. And they had two parents in this business. I feel bad." However, in a confessional, Sami wondered if she would even be considering cosmetic surgery if she wasn't living the celebrity lifestyle in Los Angeles. She said: "I'm really trying to think if we lived in, like, Alabama and I worked a normal job and I wasn't on social media. I probably would still want a nose job."
