‘Bookie’ Canceled By Max After Two Seasons

Bookie, the comedy series Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay created, has been canceled at Max after two seasons.

The series, which premiered on the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer in November 2023 and premiered its second season in December 2024, was not renewed for a third season.

“For two seasons creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay and their hilarious cast, led by Sebastian Maniscalco, made us laugh while pulling back the curtain on the world of sports betting,” a Max spokesperson told Deadline. “We won’t be moving forward with a third season, but we are grateful to have worked with such a brilliant team on this laugh out loud comedy.”

Sebastian Maniscalco starred as Danny Colavito in Bookie, which is about a veteran bookie who must fight to survive the legalization of sports gambling in Los Angeles.

Bookie also starred Omar Dorsey as Ray Ballard. The cast also included Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, Jorge Garcia, Maxim Swinton, Rob Corddry, and Selina Kaye. Recurring characters included Arentia Walker as Grandma Marion, Toby Huss as Carl Lurtsem,a and Dake Dickey as Wendy.

Charlie Sheen made a guest appearance as himself, reuniting with Chuck Lorre, the creator of Two and a Half Men.

In an interview with Deadline posted in December, Bakay teased Sheen’s return in Bookie’s second season.

“Charlie was such a home run for us in season one, we thought we’d extend the metaphor a little,” Bakay, said. “I don’t want to spoil things, but I refer to his arrival this season as Deus Ex Sheen. He is forever a part of the Bookie family.”

Bookie ran for two seasons for a total of 16 episodes. The last episode, “A Whale in Pomona,” was released on January 30, 2025.
