Ottawa Senators Defeat Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 in Gritty Road Win

The Ottawa Senators got a grand total of two shots in the third period on Tuesday night and scored on both of them to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 at Wells Fargo Center.

Dylan Cozens' unassisted third period goal provided the insurance dagger. He now has three points in three games since being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres.

With Linus Ullmark getting a complete night off, Anton Forsberg made 20 saves to secure the victory.

The Senators wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just seconds into the game. With defenders losing track of Brady Tkachuk, who's generally a pretty noticeable presence out there, all eyes were focused on Claude Giroux. Left open at the side of the net, Tkachuk one-timed a Giroux pass and beat Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov for the first goal of the game.

The scoring continued early in the first period, as a pair of young defencmen, Jamie Drysdale and Tyler Kleven, exchanged goals within the first two minutes.

Philadelphia tied things up again at 8:45 of the second period when Rodrigo Abols found the back of the net, beating Anton Forsberg. However, the Senators regained the lead late in the period when Michael Amadio fired a bad-angle wrist shot along the ice, sneaking it through Fedotov’s legs to make it 3-2 Ottawa heading into the third.

With the Flyers pressing for the equalizer in the third, Matthew Highmore made one of the saves of the season. Sean Couturier was wide open at the side of the net with an easy goal in sight, but Highmore lunged with his stick, managing to get his blade on the puck and knock it away. It was Highmore's turnover that had started the Flyers' odd man rush in the first place.

Cozens then put the game away, taking advantage of a turnover and wristing one past Fedotov with just under nine minutes to play. Shane Pinto had an empty netter to close out a 5-2 win. The Sens had 11 different point-getters in the contest.

For now, Ottawa holds a five-point lead over the New York Rangers, who are the best of the non-playoff teams. The Sens also open up a three point lead on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the first wild-card spot after the Jackets fell 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils. As of this writing, the Rangers were trailing the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 late in the second period.

The Senators are back in action on Thursday night when they host the Boston Bruins.

As the times have changed, the kinds of foods that we have readily available have expanded exponentially. From being able to buy certain fruits and vegetables year-round to being exposed to foods from other cultures, older adults on Reddit shared the foods that they once thought of as very special and exotic that you can get in any supermarket now, and it's pretty darn eye-opening. Kevin Spacey tells Guy Pearce to 'grow up'
Kevin Spacey has told Guy Pearce to "grow up" after the actor claimed he was "targeted" by his former co-star. The 65-year-old actor has taken to social media to hit back at Guy's recent claims, insisting that the 57-year-old star is "not a victim". In a video posted on X, Kevin - who starred alongside Guy in the 1997 movie 'L.A. Confidential' - said: "Guy Pearce, I've now read the comments that you made about me and while I would have preferred not to have to play this out in the media, you obviously have your own reasons for wanting to do exactly that. "But, we worked together a long time ago, you know? If I did something then that upset you, you could've reached out to me. We could've had that conversation. But instead, you've decided to speak to the press, who are now coming after me because they would like to know what my response is to the things that you've said. "You really want to know what my response is? Grow up." Kevin - whose career previously went into freefall after he was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of men - actually recalled spending time with Guy after they filmed 'L.A. Confidential'. He continued: "Did you also, by the way, tell the press that a year after we shot 'L.A. Confidential', you flew to Georgia while I was shooting 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' just to spend time with me?" Kevin also questioned why his former co-star took so long to voice his concerns. The actor - who was acquitted by a jury of sexual assault charges in 2023 - explained: "Here you are now on a mission some 28 years later, after I've been through hell and back, to do what? "I've got nothing to hide. But Guy, you need to grow up. You are not a victim." By contrast, Guy recently claimed that he was "targeted" by his former co-star. The actor told the 'Awards Chatter' podcast: "I was sort of scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man. "He’s extremely charming and brilliant at what he does - really impressive, etc. He holds a room remarkably. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question."

Emma Bunton and Mel B 'reunited in South Korea'
Emma Bunton and Mel B reunited in November to take part in a reality TV show. The 49-year-old pop star and Mel secretly flew to Seoul, South Korea, in late 2024, when they sang alongside K-pop idols for a TV show. A source told The Sun newspaper: "A Spice Girls reunion is a way off. "So having Emma and Mel back on stage singing a Spice Girls song together might be the closest fans get to a comeback, even though it will be with K-pop stars rather than Geri Horner, Melanie C and Victoria Beckham. "They flew to South Korea at the end of last year and were on set for quite a few days as they battled it out with other pop veterans. "With them alone on board, it is a big show. But there’s also Boy George and loads of other chart-topping stars, which will be enough to encourage people to tune in." The reality show will air on Apple TV and will also feature the likes of Megan Thee Stallion and Psy, the 'Gangnam Style' singer. Meanwhile, Melanie recently revealed that she's ready to "start planning" a Spice Girls reunion. The 51-year-old singer would love to reunite with her bandmates to mark the 30th anniversary of 'Wannabe', the group's 1996 hit single. Melanie told Rebecca Judd On Apple Music 1: "There has to be something befitting of 30 years since ‘Wannabe’. "Once a Spice Girl, always a Spice Girl. We all feel like that, but we now are getting together because we know if we're going to do anything, we have to start planning things to get things right. "We have to start making the plans right now and putting them into action. So fingers crossed."
