The Grey's Anatomy actress, 75, spoke with PEOPLE about her past projects at the American Black Film Festival Honors red carpet on Monday, Feb. 17. Thinking back to her time playing Georgia Cummings on The Client List, Devine hesitates to find a word to describe the experience.
“Mixed,” she laughs before claiming of Hewitt, who starred in and served as an executive producer of the series: “You know what? She decided to rewrite the entire angle of the show right in the middle.”
At the time, Devine says she “was very excited about it,” although the series came to an abrupt end after just two seasons.
“It was good,” she shares. “Everything gets you prepared for whatever you're going to do next.”
PEOPLE reached out to a rep for Hewitt for comment.

That same year, Hewitt was pregnant with her first child, whom she shares with her now-husband Brian Hallisay. The pair had met in 2011 but reconnected when they worked together on The Client List, with Hallisay playing Hewitt’s estranged husband.
Hewitt currently has a leading role in 9-1-1, in which Hallisay once again plays her character Maddie Han's ex-husband. They also play a (happy) couple in the recent Hallmark Christmas movie The Holiday Junkie, and the proud mom said it was a nice change of pace for their children to see.
"The first thing [my daughter] said was, 'Mommy is he going to be nice to you this time?'" Hewitt told PEOPLE in December. "I was like, 'Yes, sweetie, it's a Christmas miracle. He's playing a kind character to me.'"

"So it was really funny. My daughter was super psyched that daddy was going to be nice to me on screen."
The film was a full family affair, featuring all three of the couple’s kids: Autumn, Atticus, 9, and Aidan, 3. It was inspired by the I Know What You Did Last Summer actress’ grief journey after losing her mom Pat to cancer in 2012 and how she declared herself a “holiday junkie” as she leaned into the joy of the season to cope.

Devine also took on a Hallmark project this year, starring as the Lewin family matriarch Linda Lewin in Hallmark's first holiday series, Holidazed. She told PEOPLE in December that she feels “so blessed” to have had success in her career, noting that she has no intention of slowing down.
“If you look at my record of all the stuff I've done, I'm amazed by a lot of it,” the Emmy winner said. “Sometimes, you feel like you need to go somewhere and sit out. But most of the time, I'm so excited with the new things that are coming out.”
